The Tokyo Marathon, Japan's largest big city marathon, was established in 2007 and has quickly grown into one of the world's premier road races. The race starts at the Metropolitan Government building in Shinjuku and ends at the Tokyo Big Sight. The scenic route passes several of Tokyo's main tourist spots, including the Imperial Palance, Tokyo Tower, Asakusa and Ginza. More than 250,000 entry applications are received annually for the 32,000 entry spots available.
