Footwear is a critical factor in sport - at any age and any level. Adolescents tend to grow in “spurts” and this can present unique challenges in terms of injury, particularly in the foot. Heel pain is a common complaint for junior athletes and can often interfere with their ability to play sport pain free. The most common form of heel pain is called Sever’s Disease and it can be so painful the young athlete is simply unable to participate in any activity, let alone organised sport. An active lifestyle through childhood and especially adolescence is very important to protect against the serious health issues of Obesity, Diabetes and Heart Disease. Activity for adolescent girls is also essential in developing strong and healthy bones that protect against osteoporosis.
