GEL-NIMBUS 10th ANNIVERSARY

For the 10th incarnation of the GEL-Nimbus, we have continued with an aggressive and futuristic upper appearance that excites the Nimbus buyers each year. The great Nimbus ‘ride’ for the neutral runner continues to be a major feature.

The GEL-Nimbus was developed to cater for the need of highly cushioned running shoes, especially in the American market. The issue at that stage with cushioned shoes was that they were quite unstable - the shoe needed to be ‘soft’ but this results in shoes that can break down easily. It was our objective to build a cushioned shoe that had that ‘soft’ feel under foot but also did not collapse too quickly.

We did not want this shoe to be the GEL-Kayano minus the dual density midsole. The neutral runner needs more cushioning in the heel-to-midfoot stage of the gait process while the over-pronators (Kayano user) needed a shoe with a perfect mix of cushioning and added stability to accommodate a more flexible foot. For the upper, we went for a more aggressive look and feel that suited this type of consumer.

Over the years the GEL-Nimbus has evolved but the IGS principles and biomechanics remains in the core of this shoe. We continually challenge ourselves to build a lighter, more cushioned and more durable GEL-Nimbus each year.

Over time, it has gone from a shoe that mainly catered to the U.S. market to being one of our most popular running shoes in the world.

The GEL-Nimbus is now one of our flagship models through which we introduce our new technology. For instance it was the first shoe to have Space Trusstic and then a year or two later the Gender Space Trusstic. These proved to be breakthrough technologies that we adapted to other shoes in the many categories.
